What Is Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy?
Pelvic floor physiotherapy is a specialized treatment that restores the strength, coordination, and flexibility of the pelvic floor muscles—the group that supports the bladder, uterus (or prostate) and bowel—and is essential for core stability, bladder and bowel control, sexual function, and comfort. At our Pelvic Health Clinics in Richmond Hill, York Rehab Clinic’s specially trained physiotherapists (rostered with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario) use evidence-based assessment and treatment techniques to help when these muscles are weak, tight, or injured and causing symptoms such as pain, leakage, heaviness, or discomfort. We treat a broad spectrum of concerns for women, men and children, including urinary and fecal incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, chronic pelvic pain (including pain related to endometriosis or prostatitis), pregnancy and postpartum care (preparing for childbirth, addressing diastasis recti, restoring strength after delivery, and preventing prolapse), sexual dysfunction (painful intercourse), post-surgical rehabilitation, men’s pelvic health issues, and pediatric incontinence and pelvic floor dysfunction.
